First off its worth knowing what you should not feed your pet
Here is an interesting article by Rochelle Connery an E How contributor.
If you’re not fond of purchasing pre-made animal treats at you local pet store you can make your own pettreats at home with everyday household ingredients. However you need to be sure that you exclude any ingredients that could be potentially harmful to your pet.
Harmful Human Foods for pets
Chocolate, Onions, Raisins, Grapes and Macadamia nuts are all harmful or fatal to dogs ( bellaonline)
. You can substitute Carob in recipes that call for chocolate.
According to Dr. James Glover of petpeoplesplace.com chocolate is also unsafe for cats so it’s a good idea to exclude it from any pet that you own.
Safe Foods For Pets
Animals love pungent ingredients in their treats as their sense of smell can arouse a more a more tasty experience when they eat. Some of the most popular homemade animal treat ingredients include Garlic, Oregano,Sharp Cheese, Bacon and Salt.
Have a think about how much or how little of these pettreats you want to make and measure the ingredients accordingly.
I will list a few recipes on the site and I hope you will try some out and leave your comments on the blog. It is real;y useful to have some comments from people who have actually used the recipes rather than just have a “hit and miss” go at choosing a recipe.Having siad that, just like humans our animals are individuals and they do not all share the same palate.
I have two cats and one goes crazy over catnip while the other totally ignores it
Hi and welcome to my pettreatscafe blog
Not quite what I had in mind for pettreatscafe.com
When I started this blog I really had little idea just how many pettreats were available on the internet, especially homemade pettreats. There seems to be an assumption that when we think of pettreats we automatically think of something that is edible. When I think of treating myself I can think of many more treats than just a good meal or cream cakes(which I have a passion for).
However, initially lets focus on edible pettreats. Here at petreatscafe I hope you will find a number of interesting recipes for your pet that you can make yourself. I will be including a wide range of pets, not just cats and dogs although these do appear to be the favourites. An internet search will show a vast number of pettreats that you can make although I have found a great many repetitions and very few comments or blogs about whether the persons pet actually liked theses treats or not. Here is where I hope you will help. Please let me know if you have tried any of the recipes and whether or not your pet liked them. OK so all animals are individuals and what will appeal to one may not appeal to another but maybe it will give me an indication of the most popular pettreats. My pets give me a great deal of pleasure and they can very funny. Please take a minute to look at the “funny animals” video. Plaese follow the link.

Part of my reasoning for this blog was to see if I could make pettreats cheaper than I could buy them. I would appreciate any comments in the blog about how you have found the cost of making pettreats.
